Point of Sale Tutorial

Overview

  • In BOS Enterprise, any Transaction Type can be used as a Point of Sale (PoS) till, for example, a Cash Sale based on Customer Invoices.
  • A PoS sale works like this:
    1. The Cash Sales customer is filled in on every new transaction.
    2. Items are scanned or searched for.
    3. The payment is taken with the Customer Payments Module, which handles cash, change and tips.
    4. A Cashup checks the money taken against the transactions.
  • For the settings and barcodes, see Point of Sale.

💡These tutorials explain how to set up a Transaction Type for Point of Sale, add barcodes to items, make a sale and take the payment, and cash up.

How to Make a Sale

Info
  • PoS is mostly used for walk-in customers, who usually have no account and are not registered for VAT. Their sales go to the cash sales customer.
  • Up to the Transaction limit for Cash Sales, the invoice does not need the customer's details. Above it, the warning Transaction exceeds maximum allowed on followed by the customer's name reminds you that the customer's details are needed on the invoice (see VAT Types).
  1. Navigate to the PoS Transaction Type, for example, Cash Sales.
  2. Click New (button). The cash sales customer is filled in.
  3. Scan each item's barcode. The item appears on the transaction.
    • Note: On some screens, click the barcode icon first. On others, a setting makes the screen ready for scanning, so you just scan.
    • To add an item without a barcode, search for it in the Search block and click Add (button).
  4. Change the Qty if needed.
  5. Click Save (button).
  6. Take the payment: click Pay (button) and record the cash, card or other payment, with any change or tip (see How to Receive a Customer Payment from a Customer Invoice).

How to Cash Up

  1. At the end of the shift or day, navigate to Cashup.
  2. Create a cashup for the PoS receipts, count the money and enter the amounts (see Cashup Tutorial).
  3. Check the variance and complete the cashup.
