MRP Tutorial
Overview
- Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) checks whether there is enough stock for the materials your orders need, and shows what is short.
- All quantities are shown in each item's base unit.
- For the settings, filters and columns, see Materials Requirement Planning (MRP).
Note
- Work Orders and Sales Orders are only included when their Transaction Type has Transactions > Use for Material Requirements Planning (MRP) checked.
- Purchase Orders only count as On Order when their Transaction Type has MRP > Purchase Order Transaction (MRP – On Order) checked.
- Updating an order's quantity needs General > Material Requirements Planning (MRP) - Access Allowed set to Full Access.
💡These tutorials explain how to check the material requirements of your orders, see what makes up the demand and the stock on order, and update an order to the quantity you can make.
How to Check the Material Requirements of All Orders
- Navigate to MRP.
- Set the filters:
- Transaction = Select the Transaction Type, for example, Work Orders.
- Date (radio button) = Select whether to filter on the transaction date or the due date.
- Date = Select a period, for example, This month, or enter the start and end dates. The arrows move to the previous or next period.
- Click View (button).
- Read the list. For each material:
- Demand: The quantity the orders need.
- In Stock, On Order and Reserve: The stock you have, have ordered and have set aside for other orders.
- Available: The quantity you can use.
- Required: The quantity still short.
How to Check the Material Requirements of One Order
- Open the Work Order or Sales Order.
- Select Actions (button) > Check Material Requirements. MRP opens for that order.
- Note: You can also enter the order's number in the No. filter in MRP and click View (button). The order is found whatever its status.
- The top part shows the order's output:
- Possible Qty: The quantity you can make with the materials available.
- %: The part of the order that you can fill.
- The bottom part shows the materials, as in How to Check the Material Requirements of All Orders above.
How to See What Makes Up the Demand and the Stock on Order
- Right-click a material and select an option:
- View Demand by Transaction = Lists the orders that need the material. This option is only for all orders, not for one order.
- View Purchase Orders = Lists the Purchase Orders that make up the On Order quantity. If there are none, the message "Purchase Orders not found / Nothing On Order." appears.
- To open a listed order, right-click it and select Open Transaction.
- Click the back arrow (top right) to return to the materials.
How to Update an Order to the Possible Quantity
Note
This action is only available when MRP was opened for one order. Otherwise Update Qty is unavailable.
- Check the material requirements of the order (see How to Check the Material Requirements of One Order above).
- Select Actions (button) > Update [Transaction Type] No. [number] to the Possible Qty, for example, Update WO No. 215 to the Possible Qty.
- Confirm. The order's quantity changes to the Possible Qty, and the requirements are refreshed.
How to Open a Material's Item
- Right-click the material and select Open linked Item to open the item.
- Right-click the material and select View Item Summary to see its stock and transactions.
