Image Viewer Tutorial

Overview

  • The Image Viewer lists the images linked to transactions, items, workflows and classes, and adds new ones.
  • An image can be linked to more than one transaction or item without copying it.
  • For every option and setting, see Image Viewer.

💡These tutorials explain how to find, add, link, rename and delete images, and move images between the database and the images folder.

Navigation Example

Main Menu > Image Viewer

How to Find Images

  1. Navigate to the Image Viewer.
  2. Type = Select what the images are linked to, and identify the record:
    • Trans = Select the Transaction Type and enter the number.
    • WF = Select the workflow and enter the record number.
    • Items = Enter the item ID.
    • Class = Select the class and enter the ID.
    • All = Lists all the images.
  3. Search = Enter part of the caption (optional).
  4. Click View (button).
  5. Note: To switch between pictures and a list, click Menu (button) > Image Viewer or List View.

How to Add an Image

  1. Find the transaction, item, workflow or class the image belongs to (see How to Find Images above).
  2. Click New (button) and select the image file.
    • Note: If no record is selected, a message asks for one, for example, Please select a Transaction.
  3. Caption = Change the caption if needed. It starts as the file name.
  4. Click Save (button).
  5. Note: When the Image Viewer is opened from a transaction or item, it already shows that record's images.
  1. Open the transaction or item that needs the image.
  2. Open the Image Viewer next to it and find the image.

  4. Note: An image that is itself a link cannot be linked again.

How to Open or Delete an Image

  • Open: Right-click the image and select Open. It opens in the program for that type of file.
  • Delete: Right-click the image and select Delete. At Delete Image?, click Yes. An image that other images link to cannot be deleted: the message Delete failed. The selected Image has dependencies. appears.

How to Move Images Between the Database and the Images Folder

Note

These options need the general setting Images > Folder. Without it, the message The Images folder has not been set. See 'General Settings > General > Folder - Images.' appears. Where new images are stored depends on Images > Store images in database.

  1. List the images to move (see How to Find Images above).
  2. Click Menu (button) and select one of these:
    • Copy Images to folder = Copies the listed images to the images folder.
    • Move Images to folder = Copies them to the folder and removes them from the database.
    • Load Images from folder = Loads them from the folder into the database.
  3. Click Yes to confirm. A message says how many images were copied or loaded.
