Item Categories

Overview

Items can be grouped into Categories for reporting and management purposes.  In addition, Subcategories can be created to further divide the categories.

When an item is created, the tabs that must be completed are determined by the Category Settings.

ℹ️ Categories are viewed and edited from the same screen.

Buttons Explained

  • New: Inserts a line at the bottom of the table for completion.
  • Save: Saves any changes.
  • Menu: 
    • View Notes: Toggle to show or hide any category notes below the category description. Checkmark = notes are shown.

Fields Explained

  • Field Chooser (*): Allows users to add or remove columns.
  • ID: A system-generated number allocated to the category.
  • RID: A system-generated number allocated to the category.
  • Name: The name of the category. / A field to type a name for the category.
  • Class: The Class selected for the category. / A dropdown list of classes to select one.
  • Caption: Costing: The caption for the costing.  / A field to type a heading that will appear in the costing.
  • Costing Variables: A checkbox. If checked, the category contains Costing Variables.
  • Markup Alert: The default markup / A field for users to type a default percentage. If the markup is less than this percentage, a warning is displayed.
  • Menu (...): A submenu with the following options:
    • Edit Sub Category Lookup list: Opens a text editor for users to type or edit Sub Categories.
    • Edit Note: Opens a text editor for users to type or edit a Category Note.
    • Change Class: Allows users to select a different Class for the category.
    • Set Default Tabs: Allows users to show or hide certain Tabs when creating an item. If checked, the tab is shown. The available tabs are:
      • Image & Specs
      • Units
      • Costing & Pricing
      • Inventory
      • Estimating
      • Event
      • Accounting
      • Price History
      • Costing
      • Attachments
      • Dependencies
    • Update all the Visible Tabs in the selected Category: Resets all the items in the category to show or hide the Default Tabs.
    • Enable Fields: Checkboxes. Fields that are checked are enabled:
      • Make and Model
      • Reference
      • Entities
      • Tracking
      • Customer
      • Supplier
    • Delete Category: Allows users to delete the category.
